The Asian Bo’ao Forum co-sponsored by the China National Travel Agency and the Asian Bo’ao forum will be held in the Guilin City during November 10 – November 13 this year. It’s an honor for the People’s Government of Guilin City to hold such a high-level significant forum. On this occasion, I, on behalf of the People’s government of Guilin City, extend my heartfelt thanks to the China National Travel Agency, national relative departments, and friends in the press circle as well as domestic and overseas personages, who have been concerned about and assisted in the development of travel industry in Guilin City.

Just now, Mr. Sun Gang, Deputy Director of the China National Travel Agency, and Mr. Zhang Xiang, Secretary General of the Asian Bo’ao Forum, gave important speeches on holding of the forum. To hold the Asian Bo’ao Travel Forum in the Guilin City is of great significance to promote the China’s travel industry to cooperate and develop side by side with that of other Asian countries. It is also a good opportunity for the Guilin City to show its new travel image to other Asian countries and let the Guilin City walk into the world. The people’s government of Guilin City will try its best to prepare and hold the forum, and to offer excellent services for the forum and to make due contributions for the success of the forum.

Guilin City is one of the most famous travel cities in China. Since the reform and opening of China, the Guilin City has performed in accordance with China’s policies and guidelines on the development of travel industry. With the advantage of its “first-level” landscapes as its basis and the construction of modernized international travel city as its objective, the Guilin City has promoted the construction, reformation and development of its travel industry in a big way. As a result, in 2001, the quantity of tourists in the Guilin City was over 10,000,000 person-times, including 1,000,000 person-times of entrance tourists. The travel industry has become the leading industry in the national economy of the Guilin City.

Since October 1998, in order to further meet the requirements of modernized travel and to construct the Guilin City to be a travel city as beautiful as the landscape in its border, the Guilin City has carried out 88 key municipal projects. For example, 35 roads and 17 bridges, such as Zhongshan RD, the arterial road in the city and Liberation Bridge have been reconstructed or constructed; City Center Square, Exhibition Center and Walk Street of Zhengyang RD have been constructed; the “two-river and four-lake” project of waters around the city and the nightscape lighting project have been put into execution; more than 800 high-level WCs have been constructed or reconstructed and opened; free buses in 8 lines which linked the urban area and key scenic spots have been put in use; the large-scale comprehensive environment renovation has been made. Now, the Guilin City presents a brand-new urban style and features of “city and landscape are coincided together”. For four years, the Guilin City has successively ranked first in the comprehensive environment renovation assessment of the 46 national key cities. As Mr. Qu Geping, Director of the National People’s Congress Environment and Resource Preservation Commission, said in the Guilin International Environment Protection Forum, “Now there are a lot of cities which are carrying out comprehensive environment renovation. Only three of them are successful: Dalian, Shanghai and Guilin. Guilin is a city suitable for living.”

The Guilin City has excellent conditions to successfully hold the Asian Bo’ao Travel Forum for its brand-new urban style and features, excellent environmental quality and comprehensive service facilities. We will receive representatives of the forum in the newly reconstructed and expanded Lijiang Waterfall Hotel. The “Ninth Heaven & Milky Way Waterfall” in the hotel is the largest man-made waterfall in the world and has been admitted to the world Jinisi record. In addition, we will choose some places of natural and urban landscapes as natural stages, to organize interesting cultural performances for the forum. We will also arrange representatives to travel around the wonderful “two-river and four-lake” zone and take part in all kinds of investigations.

Lades and gentlemen, the Guilin City in November will be rich in fragrance of sweet-scented osmanthus and full of joys resulting from its beautiful landscapes. We believe that, the Asian Bo’ao Travel Forum will win a satisfactory success. We will prepare for, expect and welcome the forum earnestly and thoroughly. Thank you!
