Tanggula Mountain is seated at the border of Qinghai and Tibet and belongs to Kunlun cultural tourist area. The main peak named Geladandong is 6,621m above sea level and located in the territory of Tanggulashan Commune of Golmud City.
The glacier-covered area is 790.4km2, with two big semi-curved glaciers respectively at the south and north of the mountain.
Jianggendiru Glacier at the south is the source of the Tuotuo River, the real source of Changjiang River; the glacier at the north includes a 2km long ice world composed of ice bridge, ice grass, ice needles, ice lake, ice stalactite and etc. in various shapes. It is an ideal place for exploration, travelling, mountaineering, novelty-hunting and scientific investigation.
