Learn English Speaking and Improve your Spoken English with Free English Speaking Tips Online

To become a fluent English speaker, you must study and master reading, listening, and speaking. OK, let’s try to find these tips which I think are good for learning English in a tight schedule.

Practice the 4 core skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening. They all need to be worked on for you to improve.

Surround yourself in English. Put yourself in an all English speaking environment where you can learn passively. The best way to learn is through speaking.

Watching TV only gives you the chance to hear something correctly first time. This is better for high level students. It can be great practice for speaking to native English speakers so you don’t have to ask them to repeat themselves!

Watch DVDs rather than TV. It’s better to use something that you can watch over again to catch information you might have missed the first time. Reading the sub-titles is a great idea. A bit strange, but since Irish and Scottish English accents are so different than American English, I have often had to turn on the English subtitles to understand the dialog in these movies!

When seeing a new movie look up the original title on IMDB.com. The translation sometimes does not correspond directly to the original. Find out what the original title really means. Ask yourself how the translation makes sense. What is the relation to the movie? You will never forget a new word that once it’s associated with an unforgettable movie. Works every time!

Check out the Top Videos on YouTube and watch for at least a few minutes. Most of them are hilarious! It will be so worth it. Try looking at the comments to pick up some words and sentences you aren’t familiar with, but be careful there is all kinds of bizarre stuff in YouTube comments.

Find blogs and websites in English that interest you and try to read them. For example if you are into gaming find some gaming websites. Use google translate to speed up translation or try http://www.miniculture.com so reading doesn’t feel like learning and is more fun.

Grasp every opportunity you have to speak with people in English. Talk to friends who are also learning English. Go out together for coffee and only speak English to each other!

Read short stories out loud and try to see, say and hear the words to reinforce your memory. Record yourself and play it back later, how does it sound?

Find English speaking friends anywhere. Join an English club or conversation group. Around the world there are many English speaking clubs, these clubs aren’t just for expats but for people interested in the English way of life. They can be friendly and fun. For a list of English clubs click here. Check magazines as well as your phone book, your local newspaper and your local university. Or if there isn’t one in your area – start one! Place an advertisement in your newspaper for people interested in starting a group or go to Meetup.

Pronunciation skills. Accents really don’t matter anymore. You can spend a fortune and waste a lot of time trying to “get rid of” your accent, time and money that you could spend learning more English. So, unless you are up for a role in a film, don’t worry about your accent too much. That said, people need to be able to understand you, so pronunciation and enunciation are important.

Remember, the way we write English is not the same as how it’s pronounced. For example ‘Ough’ has over 6 pronunciations. Familiarize yourself the Phonetic Alphabet. It will help you correctly pronounce words in the dictionary.

No fear. Get over any fear you might have of making mistakes. You will make mistakes.

Be patient with yourself. Learning any language can be frustrating, but frustration won’t help you, so let it go.

Be playful. Mimic famous people, play with the different accents in films etc. I do a mean John Wayne.

BONUS TIP 1: Start your own English language blog. Even for people who don’t have to write in English, writing can be a great way of properly learning the kind of vocabulary you need to describe your own life and interests, and of thinking about how to stop making grammar mistakes. The problem most people have is that they don’t know what to write about. One traditional way to make sure you write every day in English is to write an English diary (journal), and a more up to date way of doing this is to write a blog. Popular topics include your language learning experience, your experience studying abroad, your local area, your language, or translations of your local news into English.

BONUS TIP 2: Write a news diary. Another daily writing task that can work for people who would be bored by writing about their own routines in a diary is to write about the news that you read and listen to everyday. If you include your predictions for how you think the story will develop (e.g. “I think Hillary will become president”), this can give you a good reason to read old entries another time, at which time you can also correct and mistakes you have made and generally improve what you have written.

Hey you buddy, can you make some ways of learning English well? Just post your tips to help all of us improve English, will you?
