Facial scars can occur for a variety of reasons. If you have facial scars, you don’t have to live with them for the rest of your life.
There are treatments available that can significantly improve and some can even completely remove your facial scars. Most treatments take several months for results to be visible. Here are some steps:
Step 1 Cleanse your face daily, using a hydroxy acid cleanser. Hydroxy acids encourage skin cell regeneration so new skin cells are produced more rapidly to take the place of damaged cells. In addition to cleansers, you can find hydroxy acids in toners, serums and lotions.
Step 2 Massage your scars. Apply even pressure and use circular movements to rub your facial scars. This helps to break up scar tissue and improve circulation. When blood can more easily reach the area, it aids the healing process.
Step 3 Apply a scar treatment cream to your scarred areas. Such over-the-counter creams often contain natural ingredients, like onion extract, which work to gradually fade scars. Apply the cream to your scars at least three times per day. You should see improvements within eight to 12 weeks.
Step 4 Use a skin bleaching or fading cream on your scars. You can find such creams in most cosmetic, beauty and drugstores. They work to lighten areas of darker pigmentation. Your scars will then better blend in with your surrounding facial skin.
Step 5 Get laser treatment. Lasers are effectively used to remove facial scars. The light breaks up stubborn scar tissue and lightens areas of darker pigment. It also encourages collagen production so new skin cells are rapidly produced, making your skin appear more even in tone. You will usually need several treatments to completely remove your scars.
Step 6 Consider microdermabrasion. A small device that resembles a sandblaster is used to buff away the top layers of your skin. After a few days, your skin will appear smoother and less damaged. With repeated treatments, your scars will be significantly less noticeable.
Step 7 Wear sunscreen daily. The sun’s rays can darken and worsen scars. In addition, they damage the skin, thereby delaying its healing process. Keep your scars out of the sun as much as possible by wearing proper protection.
