Japan’s East China Sea Air Defense Identification Zone ADIZ: Anything You Do I Did It Before

Unmentioned by Japan and South Korea, they erected the China’s Air Defense Identification Zone some fifty years back, whilst China never even made response.

Now both are making a hue and cry, with the US encouraging them on.

China’s ADIZ definitely targets Japan and rightly so in the light of so many provocations Abe lashed out at China. The explanation coming from China is that she wanted to prevent any untoward from happening to China’s territory, which not only means Diaoyu Dao (Senkaku to Japan) but the Mainland of China as well.

To Japan vociferous objection with its demand for China to withdraw the latter’s ADIZ, the retort was fast and sensible. China would scrap ADIZ if Japan scrapperd hers.

There was no reply to that.

What is obvious to any scrutinising the ADIZ China erects, it is just a fraction of what Japan’s ADIZ being doing to China under the US protection and tutelage. The four islands in the mainland of Japan are far from China, yet Tokyo’s ADIZ went so near to China’s maritime borders and seas which are just some few minutes time from a Japanese jetfighter flight.

This was done by using the outlying islands Japan occupies, notably the Ryuku chain of Okinawa, DiaoyuDao (Senkaku to Japan) and peripheral outlying small atolls and islands Japan more than a century ago wrested from China’s control.

Thus, using these far flung islands as border markers Tokyo claims as Japanese, her maritime border cuts across into East China Sea, pushing China’s towards shallower waters nearer to China’s maritime coastline.

This impinges upon the safety of China, but why China never made much noise was its air forceand navy were no match then against the US’s and Japan’s combined, or even singly.

Just only days after China’s ADIZ came into effect, amidst Washington’s loud protest, two ‘unarmed’ B52 bombers flew into the overlapping ADIZ zone. To Washington, this was definitelya cheap war without firing a shot at China’s expense. We know for a fact these two bombers just flew in the ADIZ China designated zone, not over the Diaoyu Dao but outside it. It also took precaution not to enter into China’s Mainland airspace, consistent with Washington’s stand that so long as US planes did not intrude into Chinese airspace, it need not comply with China’s East China Sea ADIZ.

Well, yes – sensible and logical.

So what’s the holler about Washington’s giving China a slap in the face when Washington took care not to intrude into Chinese airspace and thus invoke the ADIZ?

Only after the event of Washington’s bravado in cocking a snoot at China, we were privy that since China knew the bombers were from US, and knowing it was a deliberate provocation, China refused to swallow the bait. Her jet fighters were revving and waiting to take off once the bombers came deliberately into China’s airspace.

Fortunately, the bombers made no such attempt, and an international crisis and looming war averted.

The comments by wiser media in the West and elsewhere was that Washington had better not try the stunt again, as China, already ridiculed by US allies and Japan, will not stand on ceremony.

In the last few hours as this commentary is written, China already sent jet fighters to scramble or patrol the airspace of East China Sea.

This is going to be a fight probably to the finish, so incensed was China and the Chinese.

This is not a fight China has with the US. Her target is Japan, and not even Korea. The sensible solution for Japan, and South Korea, is to scrap their East China Sea ADIZ of some fifty years vintage.

To all fair-minded peoples of the world – why China’s ADIZ is threat to security and not Japan’s or South Korea’s?

What status is there to Change?

What is the use if there is no international recognition?

With no international recognition, you can’t show it off, you can’t use it, you can’t take tourists there……What is the use?
