Daylight Savings Time beginning dates: tomorrow at 2 in Sunday morning. Now understand benefits, costs and risks of daylight savings time, and you’ll be fine. Don’t forget to spring forward to get a little more sunshine in your life. For me, I cannot wait ’til spring and to set my clock forward! I enjoy DST. I feel better when we are on it. The switch back to standard time kind of drains my energy. I guess it fits my internal clock better.
Why was Daylight Savings Time ever instituted in the first place? IMO, it interferes with the natural order of things. Just when you’re getting used to the regular time, we have to “spring forward.” The whole time change malarkey doesn’t measure up. If God had wanted it to get dark later in the spring and summer months, he’d have MADE it that way. Hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! I hope they stop this time changing in spring and make winter day longer.
Daylight Savings Time is great for anyone who loves the outdoors – who likes to walk, ride a bike, surf, play sports of any kind. You get to enjoy the daylight. That’s a good thing – unless you are a couch potato. Wow, I never realized that daylight saving time is a much more serious adjustment than simply changing a clock. Here in Arizona we do not observe DST, and that’s just the way we like it!
Some states don’t participate in Daylight Savings. If we all just left it alone then we would have a little more daylight time during the winter and I think most people would rather have that then a ridiculous amount of light during the summer. The summer solstice makes it bad enough in the fall and winter as it is. And the winter solstice makes it stay light out for a good amount of time during the summer anyway. Lets just vote to end daylight savings. Its not saving us anything anyway. It was a bad idea to begin with. What do you think?
The change of time will suit me fine. I will be able to start back my gardening. Thank God. Things are just fine the way it is. This screws everyone up in my house, The kids are cranky for a week and the dog just doesn’t get it. Cope, ok, I can cope.
Daylight Saving Time Starting Dates: Daylight-saving time begins at 2 a.m. tomorrow, but most people will probably set their clocks one hour ahead before going to bed tonight. I wish they wouldn’t mess with the time. I hate the yearly time adjustment.
The FDNY is suggesting that when New Yorkers change their clocks, they also change the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon-monoxide detectors.
Set clocks ahead, daylight time returning Sunday morning. Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday. Just remember to “spring forward” or you’ll be late. This Sunday most U.S. residents will gain an hour of daylight as it’s time to spring forward.
America is springing forward. Most Americans trade an hour’s sleep this weekend for more evening sunshine to enjoy after work. Officially the change to daylight saving time occurs at 2 a.m. Sunday, local time, though most folks set their clocks and watches ahead an hour before going to bed on Saturday. In areas that observe the change, clocks fall back when standard time returns Nov. 7.
Few people will likely wake up exactly at 2:00 a.m. local time to move the clock hand, or dial, forward an hour. But that’s when daylight saving time officially begins on the second Sunday in March. It ends on the first Sunday in November, when clocks are turned back at 2:00 a.m. local time to read 1:00 a.m. That is, for everyone except those who live in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and by most of Arizona, with the exception of the Navajo Nation.
Turning clocks back in the fall could mean an extra hour at bars, which tend to close at 2 a.m., right? Not so, according to the California Energy Commission. Bars actually close at 1:59 a.m., so they are already closed when daylight saving time begins.
When it began, Why two o’clock?
The thinking goes it’s late enough that most people would be at home, with few bars and restaurants being affected. In addition, it prevented the date from switching to yesterday; it would be confusing if, say, we changed the clocks at midnight back to 11 p.m. The time is also early enough that the clock-hand change occurs before early shift workers and early churchgoers might be impacted, according to the WebExhibits, an online museum.
Daylight saving time has a rocky past. Established in the United States in 1918, daylight saving time was a contentious matter and was repealed in 1919. The standardized clock changes, however, were re-established nationally early in World War II and observed from Feb. 9, 1942 through Sept. 30, 1945.
After the war, U.S. states were free to choose whether to observe daylight saving time, and if they did, the calendar start dates of the time change. The result was time confusion for travelers and newscasters. In 1966, Congress enacted the Uniform Time Act, which stated that if any state observed daylight saving time, it had to follow a uniform protocol, beginning and ending on the same dates throughout the country.
The start and end dates have changed over the years, with the most recent change in 2007 setting the start date on the second Sunday in March and end date on the first Sunday in November – adding four weeks to the total stint compared with years prior.
Saving energy and keep healthy
The idea of saving energy was one primary motivation behind the 2007 shift, but it’s arguable whether the change will be worthwhile. In 2007, the California Energy Commission estimated that the extra month would save the state only one-half of 1 percent of their current energy expenditures.
Here’s what the Department of Energy found when they looked back at energy saved nationally in 2007, by extending the DST: Total electricity savings: about 1.3 Tera Watt-hour (TWh). That corresponds to 0.5 percent per each day of extending DST, or 0.03 percent of electricity consumption over the year, which was 3,900 TWh.
The electricity savings generally occurred over a three- to five-hour period in the evening though there were small increases in usage during the early-morning hours.
On a daily percentage basis, electricity savings were slightly greater during the March (spring) extension than the November (fall) extension.
Here are some tips for how to survive the time change without losing too much sleep.

I vote to end…It is an outdated system used for farmers i do believe we do not need it anymore.
whiners. DST rules. Lots more time to enjoy the day. If you never go outside, play sports, run, ride a bike, walk, surf, or whatever, then that’s your bad. DST is for active people, not fat, lazy couch potato TV addicts. You guys will whine about anything. Next thing you know, you will find a way to blame Obama for it. Two times a year you have to pay attention, is that too much to ask?
omg! the people that think that we shouldnt change the time are retarded… if we dont change the time then sooner or later threw out the time it would be dark during our day hours.
Please grow some brains people and realize that we do things in this world to make things work!
Abolish it. It’s outlived its purpose. There’s more than enough daylight this time of year.
They need to turn it ahead and leave it. It is not needed anymore. Some states don’t even do this. It needs to be this way in all states. Like I said turn the clocks ahead and leave them.
Thats fine with me I’m up at 5 everyday any cook breakfast for my son And get out of the house so I don’t wake up my wif and daughte If I do there’s hell yo pay.
You guys stop complaining we have had daylight saving 4 many years in New Zealand, sure it takes some adjusting too, but, the extra time at the end of the day for family, friends, hobbies, sports, etc makes up for it. Try spending the extra time doing someting you enjoy…..
I love DST!!!! The extra hour of daylight in the evening is awesome!! thanks for the reminder. To all the FDNY yes, I agree with you. No nonesense!
this was instituted originally for farming issues, business issues, energy conservation and money issues…..the last debate I remember hearing about in illinois revolved around dark vs. light at school bus stops….
The business issues and energy conservation are so businesses don’t have to run their lighting or outdoor signs etc to the same extent that they do at night…it’s a lame argument, but it helped keep DST in effect.
The school bus issue was also a lame ass argument but if you wring your hands and cry dramatically about something being ‘for the children…how can you be so heartless and not care about our children….then DST stays in effect….
It is time to put an end to this b.s.!!! Time adjustments reak havoc on sleep patterns and their is no benefit to the adjustment. In Arizona, they don’t screw around with the time. The rest of the U.S. should adopt their plan. Not sure who first proposed the idea of “Daylight Savings time” but, you can best bet it was a short-sighted democrat…known for proposals of absolute nonsense to justify their existence in public office.
I thought they had done away with this a long time ago,and my question is this when will we be back to natural time for good.? Out on the west coast where I live at it just screws us up constantly and will somebody tell our government up in dc to eliminate this time change crap.
Enough is enough.
DAYLIGHT SAVINGS IS GOOD BECAUSE THERE’S A CHANGE THAT TAKES PLACE AND CHANGE IS GOOD SOMETIMES SO WE DONT GET BORED WITH REPETITION OF DAY AND NIGHT BEGINNINGS AND ENDINGS
Its a socialistic, communistic, liberalistic plot to take away our God -given right to DARKNESS.
DST doesnt help the farmers. They work from daylight to dark no matter what the time is. This is for golfers to play later. Now that some of the schools in our area are going an hour longer to make up snow days this makes it hard on the little ones. It also supposed to save on energy. Who can go out and work in their yards and gardens in the kind of weather? Just another way of the so called “smart people” making rules for the rest of us. Just leave the time alone.
They have been messing with the time lately which only lets me know that the method they are using to measure time is not accurate. Hell, they thought the earth was the center of the universe at one time, they taught that everything revolved around the earth, long time ago they said eggs were bad for you too now eggs are good for you………..we need universal healthcare
Geeze people. Day Light Savings was created because of how the earth roatates on its axis. We can’t change it. All the states do it, all the countries do it. It is one hour, I hate it too, but we just have to live with it. Its not the end of the world. Take a stupid nap or something, its not even a school day.
Abolish DST. It wastes energy, causes frayed nerves, and supports obesity:
– More air conditioning is used in homes with DST. People come home an hour earlier to hotter houses more days out of the year.
– More auto air conditioning is used with DST, because commuters come out to hotter cars (the sun is higher in the sky) with DST.
– Cars are left idling with defrosters on more days in the year with DST. Without DST, the sun does the work before the average worker has to leave for work.
– The time change causes physiological problems. Many people take weeks to adjust. And tempers are hot because of that.
– People eat more to make up for the lack of sleep.
The only reason we stay on DST is that rich government workers want to play golf after work.
We have really important issues to think about; and this is not one of them. Consider the homeless, the abused, the deteriorating morals and the selfishness of the majority of our leaders. We need leaders who will do what is right for the people–no matter who protests! What’s right is right— even if the rich and famous don’t like it!!!!
Yes to daylight savings time the rest of your whiners need to understand why it is done or move to Arizona which doesn’t observe dayliught saving time. Stop the complaining and go to bed an hour early I’ll bet you didn’t complian about getting an extra hour of sleep in the fall Think of all the school children waiting in the dark for a SCHOOL BUS at 6:00 in the morning .
This daylight savings time change needs to go back to the way it use to be on the first Sunday of April ending the last Saturday of October. There are children who not all have the luxury of getting a ride to school & because of daylight savings time starting early/ending later some of these children who must get up very early like my young niece have to walk to the bus stop & wait outside now in the dark! Not only that you don’t save any energy starting it March ending in November because you have to put your lights on in morning! This is so damn stupid of our government not thinking again! CHANGE IT BACK THE WAY IT WAS!
The Dangers of Daylight-Saving Time: I know the headline of this blog–DANGERS–may sound a bit extreme. Daylight Saving time, when clocks are set ahead one hour at 2 a.m. local standard time (this year it’s Sunday, March 14) may be inconvenient, and nobody I’ve talked to yet is looking forward to losing that precious hour of sleep–at least not without a corresponding hour of partying, goofing off, or at least television-watching to take in trade. A hassle, yes, but ‘dangerous’?
Daylight Saving Time??? Why not call it what it really is–Daylight Stupid Time!!! Besides messing up your body clock and in sum cases your health, all DST does is move an hour of daylight from the cooler summer mornings to the HOTTER summer evenings. Anybody for higher electric bills{AC}. Attack DST for what it truly is UTTER NONSENSE.
People!!!, Lets think about our children that has to wait at the school bus stops during the school year. It is so much happening and so much violence against our children. lets not forget what has already happened to our little ones, when the communities, polices, tracking dogs are out in high brush and soggy grounds taking a chance on getting snake bitten looking for our babies, this is a serious matter, lets not forget the human criminals that sick in the head. Riding around looking for a helpless children to rape and kill. THINK PEOPLE ABOUT OUR CHILDREN. THINK ABOUT THE SUFFERING THOSE CHILDREN MAY GO THROUGH. DO YOU LOVE SELF MORE THAN THE CHILDREN, OR DO YOU LOVE TIME MOE THAN YOUR CHLDREN? WHICH?
Turn your clocks forward Sunday morning. But Daylight Saving Time will cost you, according to one study. Once a year, Americans all over the country turn their clocks forward one hour — an annual ritual called Daylight Saving Time that’s supposed to save them money by using less energy. Wait! Daylight Saving Time will cost me money?
