Chahan River – a grade A preservation forest park of China
As a grade A preservation forest park of the state, Chahan River is located in Baoku Valley at the southern foot of Daban Mountain in the northwest of Datong County. The elevation of the park is 2,860m; the area of woods is 1,400ha; the forest is mainly composed of Sabina trees and violet birches.
In the park, the valleys are deep; the woods are thick; the brooks are clear and the rocks are unique. The natural landforms and forest sights of stone forest, waterfall, azalea and Sabina tree are called “the four superb works of natural art”. The whole park has both the beautiful scenes characterized of the south of Changjiang River and the grand, bold and precipitous landforms characterized of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Therefore, this park is also called Zhangjiajie on Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
